e.l.f. cosmetics beauty haul!

I’m back in the States! I’ve actually been back for a few weeks, crazy wedding events every weekend! Will fill everyone in on that in a later post.

Anyways, since I’m back home, that means it’s time to stock up on products that I can’t find in Dubai. Especially my drugstore makeup and beauty products.

e.l.f. cosmetics has been one of my favorites. It’s inexpensive, has a broad range of products, and has recently added many new things to their collection, and improved formulas. So naturally, I had to go and stock up on a few of my faves.

I had to go pick up some brushes that disappeared or finished. I got the highlighting brush and fan brush. The e.l.f. ones are so soft and perfect for picking up the right amount of product. And at $3, you can’t beat that.

I also got the 10 color eyeshadow palette in the shade “Nude Rose Gold”. It’s the great little palette, easy to travel with, muted nudes and brown shades and some rosy shimmer shades. It’s easy, it’s convenient, it’s pigmented, it’s $10. I’m sold. I think I’m going to have to go back for the Mad for Matte palette as well. Can never have enough palettes!

Also picked up another of my favorite powders, the HD Powder in Sheer. It’s white, finely milled, perfect for baking and setting, and doesn’t have flashback. Also comes with those cute little poofs for smacking your face with powder in a really frilly, pink powder room 😜

Speaking of baking, I like to use a sponge. I usually gravitate towards my real techiniques sponge for setting under my eye. But I really liked the feel and softness of the e.l.f. sponge, so I decided to buy it. It also comes in 4 different colors, so I got the teal one. It feels nice for blending and I’m sure I can use the rounded side for baking and setting powders.

Also decided to pick up a primer spray. It’s from their new aqua beauty collection of skincare products. The woman who worked there said it’s great before and after makeup application. Really hoping it works out well, because I would love to buy a few more $8 face sprays.

So my total came to over $30, and they had a promotion for a free gift with a $30 or more purchase. It came in a cute pouch with newer products I have yet to try. It’s from their “beautifully bare” collection, and they look quite promising.

I’m quite excited to try the natural glow face palette because you doesn’t love a palette with some nice highlight and contour???

anywhooooo, i must go now. will definitely come with an update later on and review some of the newer products I bought!

love always, lala.

going to the dark side- essentials salon

I have had blonde in my hair since I got engaged. That was July 2015. When I decided to get my hair done then, I said that it was time for change. I was getting married, I should I have a new look. At the time, my hair was grown out, it was my natural color after who knows how many years. Anyways, I decided to cut my hair a bit, add some blonde tones. I kept the blonde until my wedding, and after also. I mean, I love blonde hair, and it always looks good.

Now, I’ve been married for almost a year and a half, and I. Am. Sick. Of. Blonde.

It’s just such a hassle to maintain, and to make sure it doesn’t go brassy and orange. I had had enough. I did my research, and I finally found the salon I wanted to go to for the change. I have yet to do anything to my hair since I moved to Dubai, which was almost a year and a half ago. I was just waiting to go back home to New York and then do something to my hair. I find it hard to trust new hairdressers, especially because I had been going to the same one for 10 years. But I have events and weddings coming up, and I didn’t want to wait till the last minute.

After A LOT of research, I chose to go to Essentials Beauty Salon and Spa. I had heard good things about this place, and it was also reasonably priced. I called ahead for a consultation, where I met with Svetlana. We discussed whether I should I dye my hair dark, or tone the blonde to a nicer shade and slowly work it back to dark. I decided to tone it to a nice medium/dark brown shade, almost a mocha brown. It would cancel out all the gross blonde that was being stubborn and turning brassy.

The salon atmosphere is so nice, very comforting and relaxing. It’s set in a villa, and decorated in such a cute English style, with shades of pinks and blues, and pretty chandeliers and lace curtains. I was seen right away, and the process begun. It takes about a half hour for toner to set in your hair. So I had my hair washed, toned, and rinsed in under 45 minutes. After, Svetlana dried my hair so I could see how the color turned out.

And it came out to exactly how I wanted it! The blonde toned into the perfect chocolate brown shade of my dreams and blended in nicely with my roots, which are a dark brown/black.

Overall, the whole thing took about an hour, and I left a very happy customer, who will definitely be returning and recommending to everyone who ever asks for salon suggestions. Their rates are very reasonable too, compared to other higher end salons in Dubai, and this salon is categorized into the high end branch. I paid 165 dhs, and I was very pleased with the outcome.

motd- smokey purple eye

I love how purple looks for brown eyes and tan skin. It’s smokey and magical and it can just make your makeup stand out. I love doing this on random days when I feel like making my eyes pop.

Brows: Anastasia Beverly Hills Dip Brow Pomade in the shade Dark Brown.
Face: On my face is my trusty Maybelline Fit Me Foundation Matte + Poreless in the shade 220.

Concealer: Under my eyes, I used the NYX HD concealer in the shade CW04.

Powder: Set it all with my NYX Mineral “set it and don’t fret it” powder in the color Translucent. I love this stuff. I use it to set my makeup and for baking on days I feel like it.

Cheeks: Bronzed and lightly contoured with my favorite, Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer, and blush was Milani Romantic Rose.

Highlight is Becca’s Champagne Pop (center shade) on my cheekbones and on my nose and Cupid’s bow.

Eyes: On my eyes, I used The Anastasia Beverly Hills Self Made palette. I used the color Sherbert in my crease and Buttery on my brow bone. All over the lid is Metallic Plum, such a gorgeous shade. Packed the tiniest amount of Pink Champagne on the center of the eyelid to brighten slightly, and Treasure in my inner corner.

NYC Liquid Liner and Kat Von D Trooper eyeliner for my wing. Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara all over. 2 coats = BAM! instant eyelashes.

Lips is NYX Matte lipstick in the shade Honeymoon!

I hope you like this look! Please comment or like if you do! Thanks.

beauty haul- makeup

I have done a lot of shopping these past few weeks. I needed to stock up on my makeup staples, and along the way, I picked up a few new products out in the market. I can’t help it, I am addicted. So, I thought that I would share what I’ve picked up!

Okay so there are a few necessary items that I just needed in my collection:

Okay, I had to. There was no way I couldn’t. I had to pick up the new Huda Beauty Textured Eye Shadows Palette- Rose Gold EditionDang, that is a long title. But its worth it. I love this palette. I’ve only had a chance to play around with it once so far, but I have to say, the shadows are great! It’s a bit on the pricey side, and the packaging isn’t what I expected for a palette that I paid $68 for (its a plain, flimsy cardboard box)- but the product itself makes up for it. I will do a more in depth review of this palette, that will be most likely be my next post!

The next item I picked up was the Urban Decay One and Done foundation. I picked mine up in the shade Medium. It’s more of a BB cream type- has a very light to medium coverage. It looks great on the skin honestly. It gives you a very natural base, evens out your skin tone and blurs imperfections. I can build up the coverage by mixing in a different foundation, but on some days, you just want a very simple, light base on your face, for every day use. It comes in 5 shades I believe, and it adapts to your skin tone, which is great. I really love this product, and I recommend you pick up a sample and test it out!

This one was more of an impulse buy. I picked up the Marc Jacobs Hi Shine Lip Lacquer in the shade Love Buzz. I have seen this gloss talked about all over the web and people say great things about it. So, when I was in Sephora, I tested out a few shades and ladies- THE HYPE IS REAL. It has an unbelievable shine. It literally looks like pure glitter, without looking too flashy. I applied it over my liquid lipstick, and it enhanced the color and added shine. It’s not super sticky, and it smells really good. It is kinda pricey, but honestly, I don’t buy many expensive things, so I decided to treat myself. It works well with lipsticks, and on top of lip liners. Love. It.

Had to pick up my handy dandy Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer. I have been using this product for years, and its one of my favorite concealers. It gives you coverage, hides darkness under the eyes (bless all of you who don’t have dark under eyes), and it adds highlight under your eyes, making them bright and less puffy looking. It’s a great product that everyone should try out.

Last thing I got was my Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in the shade Chocolate. It’s my favorite eye brow pencil, fills in my brows very naturally, and looks great. It’s just one of the best brow products out on the market, works well for everyone, and it’s a staple in my collection and everyday routine.

SO, I think I about covered it. I hope my haul has inspired you all to go out and shop and check out these products. Most of these are new and worth the craze. Besides, who doesn’t love buying more makeup?!

love always, lala.

Makeup Goals

I am not a makeup artist- I am a makeup addict. I love collecting makeup. I love playing with new makeup. Touching soft, buttery eye shadows, and having an insane highlight. Winged liner on FLEEK. Lip gloss poppin’. Buying endless amounts of lipsticks all in the same shade family.

I am obsessed with makeup.

I don’t know when the craze started. I used to wear very minimal makeup in high school. BB cream, mascara, eyeliner in my waterline, and lip gloss- kept it very basic. Also because I didn’t understand what blending eye shadows meant or how to conceal my under eyes properly. I knew nothing.

I began experimenting more after getting my first high end eyeshadow palette- the Urban Decay Naked 2, as a birthday gift from my sister. Shiny and matte neutrals- I was so excited! I think this might be why I love neutrals so much to this day, they just work with everything. I figured out basic eye looks, and that’s when things got out of hand.

I soon began buying more makeup, and watching endless amounts of YouTube videos. I was going to learn how to apply makeup and that started around my freshmen year of college- which was almost 6 years ago (holy crap I’m old). I did crazy looks, over bronzed my face, foundations that didn’t match, applying makeup without primer (I had no idea what a primer was, now I understand), etc. After practicing techniques countless times, I figured out what worked best for me.

And now, I can say that I know how to apply makeup- on myself. I still like to experiment with new styles of applying makeup, or different colors outside of my comfort zone. Makeup is for fun, it’s to show how you’re feeling. If I’m feeling sassy, I love going with pinks and reds. If I’m in rush, it’s nude all the way. Badass looks consist of darker, smokier colors for me, like purples and dark browns and black. On the go mostly consists of a nice base and highlight and some gloss, just to look a bit put together.

I would say that my makeup collection is somewhat decent, I have three drawers dedicated for it and my vanity and dresser are covered in lipstick holders and makeup brush jars. It’s a problem and my husband doesn’t understand. He thinks it’s ludicrous the amount of money I have spent on makeup. But men- they just don’t get it. It’s still shocks me how much a simple black line on your eyeball can make you go from blah to DAMN.

Now, I would like to post a few looks that I do here and there. But please know- I am not a makeup artist and I do not claim to be a makeup artist. I am just a person who loves to apply makeup and doll myself up. Sometimes, I am even amazed at what happens when I’m playing with eye shadows and they magically come together and look awesome.
